Loblaws Plaza land owner wants to redevelop Bank of Montreal property

The owner of the Loblaws plaza between Merivale and Baseline Roads, First Capital, has released a draft site plan to incorporate the land on Merivale occupied by the current Bank of Montreal and the former motorcycle dealership into the plaza.

One major element involves a new entrance into the property off Merivale directly opposite Burris Lane, making it a full four-way intersection and providing full vehicular access to the Loblaw complex straight from Burris. Illegal tree-cutter gets minimum fine of $500

Some residents were disturbed last April when the large stand of trees on the pending development site at Burris Lane and Merivale Road was reduced to sawdust without warning. Although many of the trees were doomed if and when construction proceeded on the site, the city only allows the destruction of trees in these cases when a landscaping plan has been approved that, among other things, identifies trees that must be retained. Islamic School Planning To Expand Building to Sutton Place

On March 3, the FHACA board met with the principal of the Islamic School, Mohamed Sh. Ahmed, along with the architect, the project contractor, and Councillor Keith Egli, to review plans for an addition to the school to accommodate their high school enrolment. Burris Lane Developer Proposes Bigger Building, Entrance and Exit off Merivale

After lengthy consultations with the city planning branch, developer Eric Giernalczyk of Alinea Investments has released a revised plan for his property that has addressed most of the concerns of the FHACA board. On behalf of the board, Bob McCaw and Terrence Lonergan met with Giernalczyk to review the proposal in detail.
