We are seeking volunteers for a very special event: 

The Nepean Old-time Fair

Saturday, June 3,  from 11 am to 5 pm

outdoors at Howard Darwin Arena on Merivale Road

This event promises to be a highlight of “Ottawa 2017” celebrations in this part of the City.  There will be performances on stage, many interactive displays, games and activities for all ages, including music and dance, a variety of food vendors, rides and more.

Come Join us – have fun while you help us to re-create the feel of a country fair of 150 years ago.   We need a variety of help on the day of the event:

– setting up the site: tents, tables, chairs, signage, arranging displays

– assisting exhibitors, welcoming & guiding performers

– staffing of activity stations, games, races

– crowd control, safety monitoring, directing parking

– taking down exhibits, tents, tables after event

– clean-up of site during and after event

Contact: Bob McCaw at 613-224-1682 or  Bob.FHACA@bell,net to volunteer.  If you have a particular interest, let us know. Also, you can ask to be assigned to the early shift (9am – 2pm) or the late shift (1:30 – 6pm) if you like.  (Volunteering for less time is also welcome.)

Family activities include:

            Traditional kids games, contests, races

            Wagon rides

            Ice cream making by hand

            Bouncy castle / obstacle course 

Displays and Demonstrations:

Local historical displays and photographs

            Agricultural equipment – old and new

            Traditional lumber skills

            Emergency vehicles – old & new

Stage Acts include:

            RCMP Pipes & Drums

            Traditional Irish and Polish dancers

            Barbershop quartet

            Magic Show

            Mad Hatters Tea Party

Food Vendors including:

Country-fair food – popcorn, cotton candy,…

            Modern ‘food-truck’ fare

            Ethnic foods

We are expecting up to 500 people to attend the fair, from across Nepean and Ottawa.  It is organized by the Knoxdale-Merivale Council of Community Associations (including FHACA), with primary funding from the City of Ottawa, along with support from other Communities and businesses bordering Merivale Road.
