Our Community Building

Fisher Heights Community Place, at 31 Sutton Place, is a city-owned community centre that is administered day-to-day by the Fisher Heights and Area Community Association. The community centre is primarily used for community activities open to the public, either sponsored by the Community Association or run by the City. The $467,000 community centre was built in 2004/2005 by Frecon Construction Ltd. The modern one-storey building is wood framed and approximately 5,000 square feet.

Two spaces

The building’s two primary spaces — a main hall and a meeting room — can be rented for meetings, private parties, and other activities.  The building has a full kitchen and bathrooms, as well as a skate-changing room that doubles as additional play space outside of the winter skating season.

Note: the community building is located on a residential street in the centre of our community. Be aware that your event has to finish at 11 pm and noise should be avoided at all times. Smoking is not allowed, not even in the city park surrounding it.

Fisher Heights Park

Our building is located in Fisher Heights Park, which features a playground with swings and two play structures, a gazebo with a picnic table, bike racks, a half-basketball court, and a baseball diamond. During the winter, FHACA volunteers build and maintain two outdoor skating rinks in the park, and washrooms and a skate-changing room in the community centre are open to the public.

  1. Hello,

I hope you are doing well.

On behalf of the Skyline Community, we would like a proposal for you. As you know, many youths in this community are into sports, specifically basketball. It has been a struggle for them to find an appropriate place near the skyline community to participate in this sport. Eleanor Park doesn’t have any basketball nets, so the kids are left with no choice but to bring other basketball nets in areas which are not appropriate. What happens is that the basketballs end up rolling onto the road, and it is dangerous due to cars.

Also, those nets broke due to horrible weather, so the kids have nothing except to stay home or walk around, causing trouble. We propose an indoor community center with an indoor basketball gym. Not only does this unite the community, it can also keep the youth out of trouble and active during summer or winter.

Many neighbourhoods across the city have accommodated their residents with an indoor gym so the youth stay out of trouble. I see many youths struggling to find what to do, so they decide to stay home, which is unhealthy resulting in them inevitably dealing with health issues.

This is a significant step in the right direction to help this community thrive. I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

    Thank you,

    Skyline Community
